LEAD ANODES

The most common form of lead anodes is the 1.5” and 2” diameter stick type with a solid copper hook at the top. These anodes are arranged in the tank so the current flow is equally distributed with a 1-3: 1 anode to cathode ratio. Stick anodes are available in either a solid or hollow form, in several alloys and surface profiles. Most operations prefer the 2” solid smooth type as this offers the longest service life. The alloy selection is dependent on the anode length and the bath type being used.

The design and fabrication of lead anodes is critical for both deposit quality and service life. The solid copper hook must be homogeneously bonded to the lead body and heavy duty Plastisol coated to 2” below the solution level.

Plating Resources, Inc. offers a reliable source for lead anodes.
